2. Radishes

Reliable radishes. These crisp, spicy veggies grow incredibly quickly, making them a perfect vegetable to grow in July, and even August and September!

They’re also one of the best vegetables to grow with children as you get results fast and the seeds are easy to handle!

3. Lettuce

Lettuce is a perfect vegetable to have on hand throughout the summer for crisp summer salads. But make sure to plant it in partially shaded areas to protect it from intense summer heat. Too much sun can damage delicate lettuce leaves and even cause the plant to bolt (flower) too quickly. This causes bitter lettuce leaves!

Regular watering and mulch help keep the soil cool and moist, promoting healthy growth. Choose heat-tolerant varieties for a continuous supply of crisp, fresh leaves throughout the summer.

4. Beets

You can plant beets in July for a late summer to early fall harvest. They thrive in the warmer soil and cooler nights and are also one of the best shade tolerant vegetables you can grow. As autumn rolls around you get to enjoy tender, sweet roots and you can even eat the leaves too.

5. Carrots

Sow carrots in July for a fall harvest, as they grow well in warm summer soil. Ensure they receive full sun and consistent moisture for optimal growth. As summer draws to a close, you’ll have sweet, crunchy carrots ready for your table.

6. Bush Beans (Dwarf French Beans)

Plant bush beans in July for a quick, productive crop that thrives in the summer heat. These compact plants yield a generous harvest with minimal space and care.

They’re also one of the best fast growing vegetables to plant, which is always useful when space is limited.

Some of the most attractive bush beans to grow include Dwarf ‘Amethyst’ French Beans and the colorful Borlotti bean varieties!
